The definitions of the transmission were defined by three:
1. Merriam Webster were defined that transmission as a setting-up of parts including the speed changing gears and the propeller shaft by which the power is transmitted from an engine to a live axle. Generally, transmission were simple defines as a gearbox which are provides speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device.
2. British English were defined the transmission is the whole of the drive train which includes clutch, gearbox, prop shaft (for rear-wheel drive), differential. and final drive shafts.
3. For American English, it were differences between the function of gearbox and the function of transmission itself :
- a gearbox is any device which converts speed and torque
but
- a transmission is a type of gearbox that can be "shifted" to dynamically change the
speed-torque ratio.
LOCATION OF THE TRANSMISSION IN THE VEHICLES
Generally, the transmission are connected to the crankshaft of the engines. It output was transmitted by driveshaft to one or more differentials, and then drive the wheels of vehicles. But the location of a transmission actually depens on the type of vehicles itself. For a rear (or all) wheel drives vehicles, it was located at the back whereas for front wheel drives, a transmission was located at the side.
